Mission Statement

Our mission at Celebrating Roots is to provide holistic developmental support that empowers youth and families from marginalized communities through culturally responsive programming & services.

WHO WE ARE

Established in 2014, Celebrating Roots is a nonprofit founded and led by first generation refugee and immigrant women from East Africa.

WHO WE SERVE

We are dedicated to empowering young people and their families, specifically BIPOC youth from low-income refugee and immigrant households.

GETTING INVOLVED

Whether you are a student or a volunteer, our organization offers a range of opportunities for you to get involved and make a difference.

Celebrating Roots is a youth development 501(c)(3) providing essential developmental programs while dismantling the barriers that have historically kept diaspora youth from engaging in crucial services.

A 2016 study by the UW School of Public Health revealed that many East African families were hesitant to engage with programs due to a perceived disconnect from their cultural needs. At Celebrating Roots, we turn this challenge into our strength. Our team, made up of individuals who reflect and come from the communities we serve, uses their deep cultural and linguistic understanding to create meaningful connections and foster trust, while creating culturally meaningful ways for young people and families to participate in and even influence their communities.

We are not just a service provider; we are a trusted ally and advocate for our youth and their families.
